If it has been over a month since you have made any changes to your website, then this article was meant for you. Truly successful websites are constantly updating and adding to their websites information. Visitors can easily tell when the information they are looking at is dated and stale, and while I don’t recommend removing a webpage from your site, bringing the information up-to-date or adding some fresh ideas to a page can give your visitors and the search engines something new to take a look at.
1If it is your website design being questioned, I would encourage you to take a look at your website from a computer besides the one you always use. Get on a laptop, preferably a newer one, and look to see if your website fills most of the screen. Over the years, the standard resolution of 800 x 600 has went the way of the birds and is no longer the most popular screen resolution that people are using. If your website is designed to accommodate this screen resolution, it is a good idea to consider a website upgrade. Most current websites are using a fixed width template at or around 1000 pixels wide.
I would also suggest looking at your website in more than one web browser. Internet Exploder is still the most popular web browser out there, but trust me on this, more and more people are using Firefox and Chrome than in years past.
2Constantly be adding helpful information to your website. It is a good idea to pull out a calendar and create a schedule to add a new page to your website on a regular basis. Next up in this process is to pull out a piece of paper and start brainstorming about possible topics that you can write about. I preach this all the time, but I’m going to say it again. Write original and informative content for your website. Take your own pictures! Not only will the search engines give you better rankings, but your website visitors will thank you as well. The first step in establishing your company or organization of the online authority in your market is to provide helpful information that demonstrates your knowledge on the topic. Over time, this content will really build your site traffic as long as you do it consistently and keep putting out quality information that people actually care about.
3Check to see if your website is still using tables. No, not the kind you eat your dinner on, but the ones that were used to design websites not so long ago. If your website is still using tables, is a good indicator that your website is past due for an overhaul. Cascading style sheets have replaced the use of tables when it comes to good website design. It eliminates tons and tons of HTML code from your webpage so that it not only loads faster, but it also provides the ability to make site wide design and layout changes without having to open up and change the code in each individual webpage. Talk about saving time when it is time to do web updates to your site.
